چکیده

Persistence of a left superior vena cava is a congenital anomaly of considerable interest but by itself exerts no apparent adverse affect on cardiac function. It may occur as an isolated lesion but more often it is associated with many congenital cardiac anomalies. Heretofore it could only be discovered at autopsy or cadaver dissection, but angiocardiography and cardiac catheterization have made possible its recognition during life. This report is a summary of the findings of 11 cases detected by these methods at this center. Embryology

Persistent left superior vena cava: the anatomical and surgical importance.

OBJECTIVE Persistence of the left superior vena cava (PLSVC) is a congenital anomaly resulting from failure of degeneration of the left cardinal vein. The prevalence of this anatomical variant is approximately 0.3% in the general population. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of the persistence of the left superior vena cava in order to avoid potential complications. SUBJEC...

A persistent left superior vena cava.

Persistent left superior vena cava is the most common form of anomalous venous drainage involving the superior vena cava, and represents persistence of the left horn of the embryonic sinus venosus, which normally involutes during normal development to become the coronary sinus. Almost always, a persistent left superior vena cava enters the right atrium through the orifice of an enlarged coronar...

Conservative management of superior vena cava injury due to hemodialysis catheter placement: A case report and literature review

We reported the case of a 78-year old woman with the inadvertent superior vena cava injury resulting from hemodialysis catheter placement. The catheter was placed through the left internal jugular vein. Hemodynamics were stable. The initial chest film illustrated an extraluminal catheter and mediastinal widening. The patient did not have hemothorax. Computed tomography venography also confirmed...

Persistent Left Superior Vena Cava Draining into the Coronary Sinus: A Case Report

Persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC) is a congenital anomaly of the thoracic venous system resulting from the abnormal persistence of an embryological vessel that normally regresses during early fetal life. This anomaly is often discovered incidentally during surgery, cardiovascular imaging or invasive cardiovascular procedures. In most cases, a PLSVC drains into the right atrium through ...

Utilisation of the snare technique for left ventricular lead placement in a patient with persistent left superior vena cava.

Persistence of the left superior vena cava occurs in about 0.3-0.7% of the general population. It is of particular importance in patients who need cardiac resynchronisation therapy. We present a unique case in which a snare system and tunnelling tool were used to place the left ventricular lead in a patient with persistence of the left superior vena cava.
